3 Ways To Boost Your Entry-Level CV
By Ruoro Kairu
Applying for a job after school can be a tough task. You’re competing with professionals who have years of experience. In the job market, you find job seekers with years of experience applying for the same entry-level positions.
What can you do to ensure your CV stands out?
I spoke to a recruiter from Corporate Staffing Services, and it turns out there are ways to make your CV stand out even when you’re fresh from school.
Here are three ways to have your CV stand out when you don’t have a lot of experience.
1. Volunteering
There are a lot of benefits to volunteering your skills.
For starters, you get to gain experience in your field. You also get to network with professionals from your field. Volunteering also gives you an overview of the job market. For example, you get to improve your work ethic.
When looking to volunteer, look for organizations in your area of expertise, or which have a role in what you’ve studied. Additionally, look for organizations with a potential to absorb you when you excel at the voluntary work.
The skills you gain from volunteering are appealing to employers. Moreover, these skills will be key when you get a job.
2. Freelancing
Truth is, countless professionals are looking to be absorbed in the job market. It may take some time before you get a job, but that should not stop you from growing your skills.
If, for example, you studied graphics design, you can freelance as a designer. This will help you build on your practical skills, and help you improve on how you communicate with clients.
These skills add to your chances of getting shortlisted and called in for an interview. When you freelance, you also get some income which will help you before you get a job.
