Are HR Skills Good For Your Future Career In HR?
The role of HR has completely transformed post-pandemic. How should HR professionals prepare for the future? What kind of HR jobs will be there in the future?
I spoke to an experienced HR expert, Calvin to find out key HR trends that will impact the future of HR.
“The change in HR workings will have an impact on the future of work itself but before I take off into the future of human resources, let’s take a look at the current HR scenario”, Calvin Said.
- An increase in outsourcing
Since human resources began using tech, in-house HR departments are reducing in size due to new software such as HRIS and its consequent employee independence. Also, so many roles are now being outsourced by specialists who simplify transactional tasks such as providing payroll or managing engagements.
- Change in core HR competencies
There was a prediction made for HR 2020 that HR professionals would be involved in business operations and strategy. This is true for most global enterprises where strategic planning has become a core HR competency.
- Technology to manage remote employees
Even before COVID-19 hit the world, companies had recognized the need to adapt to remote working. Today, managing remote work motivation and culture is the number one HR issue. Working time and productivity are being measured through technology. HR is now expected to produce more result-based performance analysis compared to earlier times.
From Calvin’s View of the current HR scenario, Is there a future in an HR career?
Absolutely Yes! There is and will continue to be the creation and diversification of HR roles.
Here are trends in HR that make it a good career in the future.
1. Remote work practices
With an increase in remote working, the new HR will have to adapt to the diverse work situation. So, if you’re looking forward to working remotely acquiring HR skills is essential.
2. Advancement
“Today, new technologies are changing the way organizations manage their workforce and hire new employees, creating the need for more digitally savvy and forward-thinking HR experts”, Calvin Said.
Employment for HR managers is expected to increase by 9% through 2026, adding more than 12,000 new jobs, according to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics. The number of human resources consulting agencies is also increasing, creating new opportunities for established HR professionals.
3. Strategic thinking
If you enjoy a challenge, HR offers lots of opportunities to make a difference and do some creative problem-solving.
For example, HR consultants can work with companies to develop an employment brand that helps them retain and attract top talent.
4. People analytics
Organizations are now recognizing the need to apply data to evaluate recruiting methods, identify gaps in skill sets and assess the demand and supply of talent. HR is now shifting to answer questions such as “what will happen?” So people analytics technology and HR skills are going to be at the forefront to boost business and customer impact
So what next…
HR is a rewarding career field poised for growth. Almost every company, large and small, needs HR professionals to manage employee relations, oversee recruitment, and administer benefits.
Pursuing training and certification can be a way to enhance your expertise and position yourself for a management position because certification is highly desired by employers.
