Job Specification

  • Reporting to Plant Engineer, Kenya Meat Commission.

Duties and Responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Updating the safety board on site;
  • Ensuring the set safety procedures are adhered to by all staff and visitors;
  • Coordinating the safety teams in the Commission on the laid down safety requirements
  • Ensuring all incidents/accidents in the Commission are effectively investigated;
  • Identifying and coordinating relevant statutory health and safety training for KMC staff;
  • Inspecting and testing machinery and equipment to ensure they reach safety regulation standards;
  • Preparing and continuously reviewing emergency response and evacuation plans;
  • Enforcing the use of relevant personal protective equipment by employees and contractors;
  • Providing technical advice to workplace safety and health committees;
  • Identifying specifications and ensuring procurement of personal protective equipment, service providers, first aid items and safety equipment;
  • Ensuring all employees, visitors, and contractors adhere to occupational safety and health regulations as well as KMC’s safety rules;
  • Coordinating regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and risks and recommending corrective actions;
  • Ensuring preparation of reports on safety performance;
  • Maintaining contacts with the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS) and ensuring all workplaces are registered; and Promoting awareness of health and safety

Person Specifications

 For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • Served in the grade of Safety Officer or a comparable and relevant position for a minimum period of four (4) years;
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Engineering, Physics, Biochemistry, Computer Science, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health from a recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in computer application skills;
  • Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution; and
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
