Summary of Primary Duties

Rural Water Management Solutions intends to engage the services of a Service Provider Capacity Building Specialist to provide capacity development and empower the target water enterprises to strengthen and professionalize their businesses through training, coaching and mentorship on the core elements of the
water business, covering financial management, record keeping, customer service, marketing, business management and regulation.

This position is based in Kisumu City with frequent field assignments to the water enterprises, requires an individual who can exercise independent judgment and is able to interact with the public with tact and courtesy.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Carry out a situational assessment of selected water enterprises in order to get a deeper understanding of their operations and services, determine their future goals and propose a clear plan of action to help them achieve their desired future state;
  • Facilitate classroom training workshops as per the training modules provided, prepare reports, and do follow ups on agreed milestones with the water enterprises;
  • Conduct coaching and mentoring visits to the water enterprises to help them internalize and apply the learning from classroom training workshops;
  • Facilitate the water enterprises in their efforts to improving commercial performance & financial management systems by adopting a digital water billing and payment system.
  • Facilitate the water enterprises in improving NRW management by implementing the adoption of smart water management and monitoring systems
  • Facilitate knowledge management by documenting case stories, experience exchange meetings, & conferences showcasing the professionalization model
  • Participate in meetings with partners and other stakeholders as needed;
  • Any other tasks as required by the supervisor(s).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The Service Provider Capacity Building Specialist will have no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

The Service Provider Capacity Building Specialist should meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Business Management, Engineering, Development Studies, Public Health, Social Sciences or any other relevant course with a bearing on water and sanitation issues;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in implementation of water supply and sanitation projects in urban and/or rural settings in Kenya;
  • Have a good understanding of business processes and project management with sound entrepreneurship skills;
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of the water sector reforms in Kenya, including the role of County Governments in water service provision;
  • Knowledge and experience in working with WSPs, community water management committees, Master Operators and private water enterprises;
  • Knowledge and experience in the delegated water management model and other innovative service delivery models will be an added advantage;
  • Be good in documentation/ report writing, with high proficiency in computer applications;
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision.
