Job Specification

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring design and development of appropriate database structure to help organize the existing data into logical and rational hierarchy that protects spatial data.
  • Ensuring planning and organizing data collection, compilation and analysis on roads, bridges and other roads structures using GPS tools
  • Ensuring production of accurate maps and other representations of data for use by KRB staff and public. Maintain and update maps and spatial data using the various GIS software and related devices.
  • Undertake desk-based data capture (digitizing) to convert paper maps and analogue data sources to GIS datasets.
  • Ensuring designing and building standardized plans and layout for the maps that support KRB staff and stakeholders as per KRB standards.
  • Coordinating maintenance of the GIS devices including the software, hardware, printers, and all the other required GIS devices.
  • Oversee interpretation and communication of GIS products to end users
  • Ensuring recording and documentation details of map updates, additions and/or deletions.
  • Create and document procedures and metadata definitions.

Person specifications

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • A minimum twelve (12) years in relevant work and at least four (4) years in a management role in comparable position in the Public Service or in the Private Sector;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geo-information Systems or Surveying and Photogrammetry or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Master’s Degree in Geo-information Systems or Surveying and Photogrammetry or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  • Registered as a Full Member in Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), (Land Surveyors or GIS Chapter) with a post registration experience of five (5) years.
  • Have a strong command in Esri’s ArcGIS products e.g., ArcPad, ArcMap, GIS server and portal, collector for GIS, workforce, and Survey 123.
  • Have strong Geo-ICT skills in web mapping, geodatabases (Postgres/PostGIS, SQL, Oracle and ArcSDE) and GIS programming in Javascript, HTML, CSS, and Silverlight etc.
  • Management course lasting not less four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Proficiency in Computer applications.
  • Demonstrated competence in work performance.
  • Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
