IRC Strategy and Communications Manager Job

The Data team is responsible for IRC’s Data Strategy, Governance and Systems. Part of IT, we work with many parts of the organization to improve the collection, management, visualization and use of data. Our team comprises 13 staff covering infrastructure, data engineering, data visualization and project management, and will likely grow to incorporate data governance and business relationship management functions. 

Following a review of the team’s portfolio and ways of working, we have decided to develop a new strategy. The Strategy and Communications Manager will serve as project manager and analyst for this process. They will work directly with the Sr Director for Data, and serve as a thought partner for them.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Design a process for developing an IRC Data Strategy;Project manage the process, ensuring adherence to scope, timeline and budget; 
  • Schedule, facilitate and document key informant interviews and other project meetings with the team and with business stakeholders;
  • Synthesize themes and insights from stakeholders in to clear and compelling visuals and narratives;
  • Support the Sr Director with identifying, clarifying and analyzing strategic choices;
  • Draft the new strategy document;
  • Develop and manage the communications plan for the project.

Position Reports to:Senior Director, Data

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field (or equivalent additional work experience);
  • 3 years work experience in a strategy consulting or strategic planning function;
  • Experience of knowledge management and internal communication;
  • Experience developing compelling visual representations of strategy concepts;
  • Proven writing and editing skills: the ability to draft formal documents and internal communications to senior stakeholders; 
  • Excellent computer skills: MS Word, Excel, file sharing and intranet packages;
  • Familiarity with the work of organizational Data functions, or with iNGOs, an advantage but not required.

Working Environment:  

  • Office or home based with some national or international travel 
  • As we work in locations in different time zones, hours for this role must include some working hours of all our team. For applicants in the Americas, some early starts, or in East Africa/Middle East, later finishes. You will not be expected to work beyond or regularly be available outside your agreed hours
